We are looking for a Specialist Lead Practitioner in Counselling to join our supportive and friendly counselling team and to provide guidance to the Student Wellbeing multi-disciplinary team and wider University student support network on complex student cases. Developing new initiatives based on HE and sector best practice.
The role
Student Wellbeing exists to support the emotional wellbeing of our students throughout their studies enabling them to make the most of their time at University and develop healthy habits to last a lifetime.
Counselling is one of the specialist support services within the Student Wellbeing Team, part of Student and Education Services. The Student Wellbeing service also offers 24/7/365 open door wellbeing chats, outreach activities across the campus and specialist support for trauma, sexual violence and harassment. We are fortunate to have a dedicated Wellbeing Centre for the delivery of therapeutic practices and group workshops.
The main duties of the role include:
- Line management of Specialist Practitioners (Counselling)
- Hold a small case load of complex student cases (providing individual one to one confidential counselling sessions)
- Carry out assessments with students to assess the complexity of presenting issues and agree a plan of support for the student
- Work proactively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to risk management processes, joint projects and proactive service delivery initiatives.
- Analysis of appropriate service data and management information to monitor, evaluate and continuously enhance the Service
- Liaison, networking and engagement with internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and deliver presentations and workshops to students and student facing staff groups
- Liaise with external agencies, professional bodies and the HE academic research community to ensure up to date specialist knowledge and maintain awareness of best practice in the HE sector.
The Lead Practitioner (Counselling) will work closely with counterparts in the multi-disciplinary team as well as key contacts in Student Disability and Inclusion and across our five academic faculties.
The working hours for this role can be flexible (between 21-35 hours per week) and we will be happy to discuss any suggested working patterns. This is a hybrid role (nominally 60/40). Hybrid working combines remote and campus-based work.
About you
We are looking for an enthusiastic, open minded and creative professional to help guide our experienced, passionate and hardworking team; someone who can offer a flexible approach with excellent planning, communication and organisational skills. You should have a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Individual Counsellor Accreditation and Membership / UKCP Registration or an equivalent body. An understanding of working within a Higher Education setting would be beneficial but is not essential, however, a passion for supporting young adults at a pivotal time in their lives is essential. A qualification in Counselling Supervision is desirable.
